Tashlich: Tashlich means "casting off" and involves symbolically casting off the sins of the previous year by tossing pieces of bread or another food into a body of flowing water. Just as the water carries away the bits of bread, so too are our sins symbolically carried away. We will gather as a community for a short ceremony along the East River and then have a chance to perform this ritual.
Tickets not required: Rosh Hashanah, 4:00 PM, Stuyvesant Cove (East 20th St., at the East River)
Yizkor: Yizkor means "may (God) remember," from the root word zakhor--remember. It is the memorial service, recited in the synagogue four times a year, one of which is on Yom Kippur. We will hold a community Yizkor service following our Yom Kippur traditional morning service.
Tickets not required (government-issued photo id. is required): Yom Kippur, 12:45PM, HUC-JIR, Lower Level
