Festive 60th Birthday Weekend

East End Temple celebrates 60 years and you are invited to the Birthday Party!

Since October we have been commemorating this milestone occasion in myriad of ways: reminiscing with current and past clergy during the Synaplex program, The Way We Were/The Way We Are; participating in a once in a lifetime restoration of a Torah scroll – a gift from the Spring, Sanders and Mann Families in memory of their daughter, Lesley Sanders, and more recently, listening to Six Decades of Synagogue Music, produced and directed by our very own Student Cantor, Shira Ginsburg. Memorable events that will remain in our hearts and minds as we turn a page in our history towards the next 60 years.

The final celebration is set for the weekend of May 2. When you receive the invitation – don’t forget to RSVP! There is no cost for any of the events and here’s a preview of the festivities planned.

On Friday, May 2 worship at a musical Shabbat service featuring our Synaplex trio. Rabbi David Adelson will celebrate the occasion with a special D’var Torah from the bima and tributes to East End Temple’s Founders. Share a hearty after service oneg with friends and attend the opening of 60 Years at East End Temple: A Memorabilia Collection along with a short video memorializing our history. Birthday cake and coffee top off the evening!

On Saturday, May 3, there will be a variety of morning programs certain to engage congregants of all ages, including a musical program for kids 12 and under, Torah study for adult learners, and party games for the "kid" in all of us! Immediately following a buffet lunch, we will move to the Sanctuary for a presentation by students in the Religious School. Finally, we will end the day with a wrap-up tribute and a farewell to our Rabbi as the weekend marks both our 60th birthday and the start of his three month sabbatical.

You can’t miss this weekend of final 60th events – plan to attend and celebrate East End Temple's history and its future.  SAVE THE DATES: Friday, May 2, 2008 and Saturday, May 3, 2008.

The Torah Project
A wonderful opportunity to obey the 613th Commandment, "to write a Torah Scroll at least once in a lifetime." Honor Torah by helping scribe Neil Yerman with the restoration of our new Torah’s lettering. There will be hourly time slots offered to those who wish to participate as well as donation opportunities to honor or memorialize our loved ones.

Sunday, October 21, 2007, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Thursday, November 8, 2007, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Tuesday, November 20, 2007, 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Then join us as we dedicate our new Torah on Friday, December 7, 6:15 PM
(during our Shabbat service)

"The Way We Were / The Way We Are"
Kick off our 60th anniversary year with Rabbi Adelson as we reunite with past EET Rabbis Deborah Hirsch and Rav Soloff. They’ll share anecdotes and insights about East End Temple’s history and the future of Reform Judaism.
